Shatter My Body but Let My Spirit Roam Free

Shatter My Body but Let My Spirit Roam Free

When all these lyrics have broken through the silences
I will be born into a more contemplative life–
to be what I have always been and more,
a thing unstuck from the womb of men and flying free
into a more elaborate relationship with myself.
O Mother taste me. I am the song you almost sang,
the one you never got to sing. But for all our essential
differences, I am not an object at all, despite my small
magical heart. Shatter my body but let my spirit roam free
into a more elaborate landscape where the kind birds
hold our warmth and feed it to us in little kisses.
